On May 10, 2006, at only 6 months old, Sophie was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms...a RARE and CATASTROPHIC form of epilepsy. She continues to battle this disorder on a daily basis. Only after she had the majority of her left hemisphere of her brain removed (on May 29, 2009) has she had a relief in seizures (though she continues to show spiking in her EEG). She has shown much improvement in development since the surgery.

The most important fact...
Jason forgot to mention the most important fact...
WE HAVE NOT SEEN SOPHIE HAVE A SEIZURE IN THE LAST 24 HOURS!!!
Oh this is all such wonderful news! Perfect day! Elsa got to see mommy and mommy got to see her! Daddy and Uncle JayJay got to go to the Hockey game. AND SOPHIE HAD NO SEIZURES AND IS MOVING, TALKING, AND DRINKING!!!! What a great day! You keep up the good work, Sweet Sophie! We are soooo happy for all of you! Jean W
By the way, I was wondering after the previous post why there was no mention of seizures! I was worried...but so relieved to hear it wasn't because there were problems.
